Upper Airway/Vocal Cord Dysfunction/Chronic Cough
Andy provides speech-language pathology services for upper airway and breathing-related conditions, including breathing pattern disorders, chronic cough, vocal cord dysfunction (VCD), and induced laryngeal obstruction (ILO), including exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO). These conditions may present as throat tightness, chronic cough, inefficient breathing, or breathing difficulty during activity or stress.
Treatment focuses on behavioral, rehabilitative interventions within the SLP scope of practice to support efficient breathing and laryngeal function. Andy has completed specialized training with Sharon Frank, CCC-SLP in the holistic P.I.E. (Physical, Intellectual, Emotional) approach for upper airway dysfunction and incorporate Buteyko-informed breathing strategies as part of breathing pattern retraining.
Therapy is individualized, non-pharmacologic, and may include breathing coordination, laryngeal control and strategies, education, and functional carryover for daily activities and exercise. Collaboration with referring medical providers occurs as appropriate.
